NATIONAL PARKS And RESERVES

The National System of Protected Wild Areas of Estado (SNASPE), created by means of the Law Nº 18,362 of 1984, corresponds to those natural, terrestrial or aquatic atmospheres that the State protects and handles to obtain its conservation.

At the moment Chile counts on 94 units, distributed in 31 National Parks, 48 National Reserves and 15 Natural Monuments, those that altogether cover an approximated surface with 14 million hectares, equivalent to 19% of the national territory.

The National Parks are distinguished because all the natural resources that exist in them, flora, hydric fauna, resources, etc. cannot be used with economic aims, rather must be protected. However the existing resources in the National Reserves can be used in sustainable form.
