The Park counts on a surface of 1,742,000 hectares and is located in XI the Region in the coastal zone of Aysen, having occupied part of the peninsula of Taitao, in addition to an ample continental sector to the height of the gulf of Pains.

In their thick vegetation different trees can be observed, like the cypress, lenga and siempreverde, the this last most abundant one. The typical fauna characterizes by a great number and variety of birds, like swans of black neck, caiquenes, varieties of ducks and cormoranes, that can be seen by all aquatic and terrestrial atmospheres. However the mammals (fox, coipo, pudú and wolf of sea), amphibians and fish have a weak presence, due to the severity of the climate and to the low temperatures of their waters. Main the attractiveness of this Park is the lagoon and the ventisquero that give their name him. He is impressive to see how the icebergs are come off great ice blocks, soon to float in you cold waters of the lagoon.

Routes of access

Only the two routes of access are marine and aerial, the marine access becomes from the Chacabuco Port near Coyhaique, and the aerial access from the city of Coyhaique.

Information to the tourist  

He is advisable to visit this Park between September and April and it is recommended to wear warm clothes. The temperature annual average that is registered here is of 8°C.

The Park counts on a sector of camping and footpaths of excursion. The sector of Camping is located in the sector of the Caiquenes Lagoon, it is not allowed to fire in the park and the area counts on bath.

The excursion footpath begins in the wharf of the finishing nail of the swan until the ventisquero San Rafael , this footpath besides to accede to the base of the Glacier San Rafael , crosses the always green forest, allowing to observe the vegetacional succession product of the backward movement of the ice.
